In the center of the image, a red blood cell exhibits prominent coarse basophilic stippling, with large, dark blue granules scattered throughout the cytoplasm. The intensity and irregular distribution of the granules make this cell stand out clearly against the surrounding, more uniform erythrocytes. This image was taken from a major beta thalasemia patient in the hematology lab at Varastegan Institute for Medical Sciences.
