Peripheral smear shows male and female gametocytes of plasmodium falciparum species. Female gametocytes are crescent or sausage shaped with dense cytoplasm, small nucleus, condensed chromatin and hemozoin pigments. Male gametocytes are similar to females but fatter and less crescentic.
